March Break Employment Opportunity for Black Students

Kaku Konbit is a charitable organization whose mission is to support and improve the lives of disadvantaged individuals and families of African and Caribbean descent through a partnership with all communities and programming that results in everyone’s successful economic and civic participation in Canadian society.  

Are you a youth between the ages of 15-18 and are an Ottawa resident?

Are you interested in earning money and experience working for an organization building the Afro-Ottawa community?

Jaku Konbit currently has twelve (12) positions open to hire youth during March Break. The positions will be assisting with the Kumba March break camp (online), attending information and educational sessions around leadership (online), research on the Black community, personal development workshops, and presentations.

Summer Employment Opportunities (SEO) Program provides up to 5,000 students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through supervised summer employment in the OPS. To be eligible to participate in the program, students must be currently enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution, be at least 15 years old, be living in Ontario during the summer and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Positions for the summer of 2021 will be posted on February 25, 2021 with different closing dates between March 10 and June 1, 2021. The 2021 employment period for students is from May to September. To participate, students must apply online at

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, the OPS will be monitoring what program adaptations may be necessary for the summer of 2021. We continue to remain flexible in our approach. To the extent possible, proposed changes will be communicated prior to the screening and hiring of students.

The Ottawa Construction Association 

There are some great opportunities for students who are looking to pursue a career in the trades.

These opportunities are IN ADDITION to the existing Dual Credit Courses (OYAP or non) offered through Algonquin College.  

Opportunities include:

1.  House Building Programs will have their Level 1 General Carpentry Opportunity attached to the program.  (Level 1 will run from mid April - July).
2.  Construction Craft Worker Level 1
3.  Retail Meat Cutter (offered for 8 weeks at Seaway Valley Institute)
4.  Architectural Glass and Metal Level 1
5.  Millwright (offered for 8 weeks in Cornwall)
6.  Electrician Level 1 (offered at La Cite - March 23 intake)
7.  Plumber Level 1 (offered at La Cite - March 23 intake)
8.  Welder Level 1 (offered at La Cite - March 23 intake)
9.  General Carpentry Level 1 (offered at La Cite - March 23 intake)
10. Brick & Stone Mason Program (offered at OTSS)
