Awards Criteria for the 2023-2024 School Year
For the purpose of the following Awards, the school year is
from July 1 to June 30.
Honour Roll
- 80% and over
– We will round up from 79.5
– Grade 9 and 10 - must have completed at least 8 courses during the school year
– Grade 11 - best 7 courses from the school year
– Grade 12 - best 6 courses from the school year
– All elearning, summer school and night school courses taken through the OCDSB or our elearning consortium will be calculated
Silver Medal
- 90% and over, we do not round up
– In grades 9 - 10 (8 courses are used to calculate) and grade 11 (7 courses are used to calculate) - courses taken in the school year can be from any grade, but a course can only count once towards a silver medal award
– In grade 12 - 6 courses must be taken at the grade 12 level but need not be taken in the grade 12 year (but a grade 12 course taken in the previous year can only be used if not previously counted for a Silver Medal Award).
– All courses, taken at any level, including co-op, dual credit, elearning, night school and summer school taken through the OCDSB or our elearning consortium can be used in the calculation of this award
Ontario Scholar
- 80% or over in a student’s graduating year
– We will not round up
– Six grade 12 course at any level will be used in the calculation,
– When more than 6 courses have been taken, the highest grades will be used in the calculation
– A student does not need to complete the courses in one school year
– All elearning, summer school and night school courses taken through the OCDSB or our elearning consortium will be calculated
Governor General’s Academic Medal
~ highest average in grades 11 & 12
– Upon graduation, the average of all grade 11 and 12 courses, at any level, is calculated
– Courses taken after graduation to upgrade are not included
Special Certificate Requirements
French Immersion
4 FIF credits plus 6 others taken in French.
Extended French
4 FIF credits plus 3 others taken in French.
Business
Must complete a minimum of 6 business credits within 4 years of starting grade 9.
Minimum of 3 from grades 11 and 12.
Fine Arts
A minimum of 6 credits in the Arts.
Technological Studies
A minimum of 8 Tech credits in Technological Studies.
