The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), administered by Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO), is used to determine whether a student has the literacy (reading and writing) skills required to meet the standard for understanding reading selections and communicating in a variety of writing forms expected by The Ontario Curriculum across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.

The successful completion of this test or the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course is a requirement for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

Date for the OSSLT Test: Grade 10 students will be writing the literacy test this year on THURSDAY, APRIL 7TH. The test will take place in the morning between 8:00am-12:00pm.  Your child will have the location of the test communicated to them through their Period 1 teacher.

Format of the Test: The OSSLT online test is a computer-based assessment that comprises two sessions (Session A and Session B) containing a total of 33 questions: 31 multiple-select questions. If you would like to examine the practice test, please click on the link - Practice Test

Supports and Accommodations for Students: On the days of the test, extra time will be built in/provided for students who require it. There are also a variety of accessibility tools available for all students to use. They are described here: Q&A Regarding the Online OSSLT.  Beyond this, our Learning Support Team will reach out to students with IEPs who may require more specialized accommodations.
